Ethiopia - The Birth Place of Coffee

S Sara PicHistorians and Botanists seem to agree that ‘Coffee’, particularly the ‘Coffee Arabica’ genus, is indigenous to Ethiopia. It can still be found growing wild in the famous regions of ‘Kaffa’, its birthplace, and the place from whence the name ‘coffee’ is derived.

Coffee is also grown in diverse varieties in varying altitudes, with varying rainfalls, temperatures and soils in the famous coffee growing regions of Harar, Sidamo, Wollega, forest coffee areas of Illubabor, Sheka, Bench Maji, Bale and numerous other regions. Our coffee is well-known for its highland ‘Mocca’ flavor and aroma, and its inherent unique characteristics, which are said to be the primary factors that distinguish Ethiopian coffee.

S. Sara Coffee Export Enterprise, operates its facilities on more than 1500 hectares of land at altitudes ranging from 1500 to 2000 meters. Its well-organized facility employs more than a thousand workers, and it maintains up to 12 different washing stations. After harvesting the crop by hand, the berries are shelled, washed, sundried, and prepared for shipping according to our customers’ demands.
